ACCESS Gets a New Playground

Approximately 200 volunteers came out to paint and construct the playgrounds new equipment.

Timeline of Events:

October 14

Design Day

Bryan McNamara, our Project Manager from KaBOOM! flew all the way from Washington, D.C. to meet with our “playground experts” (the kids of course!) about what they wanted to see on their new playground. Youth involvement and participation are important parts of the KaBOOM! community-build model and Design Day is an essential first step in including anbd thinking about the interests of the children.

December 1 -2

Prep Days 1 and 2

More than 20 volunteers came to campus to  help with the delivery of the playground equipment and other supplies. They helped to unload, sort and label equipment, cut side project materials and dig holes for the playground.

December 3

Build Day

KaBOOM! in one day the playground was  built, along with other exciting improvements including picnic tables, benches and games to the academy and upper garden areas. This project kicked off enhancements for all of the outdoor play spaces and there will be more to come!

ACCESS would like to extend a very big THANK YOU to all the generous supporters of this amazing project KABOOM!, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, New Age Distributing, WalMart, and ForeverLawn and to you all, we extend a very big thank you!
