The ACCESS playgrounds are much more than play spaces, they are used as outdoor therapeutic spaces. On December 03,2015, 200 community volunteers came to our campus to help improve our outdoor play spaces.
Approximately 200 volunteers came out to paint and construct the playgrounds new equipment.
Timeline of Events:
Bryan McNamara, our Project Manager from KaBOOM! flew all the way from Washington, D.C. to meet with our “playground experts” (the kids of course!) about what they wanted to see on their new playground. Youth involvement and participation are important parts of the KaBOOM! community-build model and Design Day is an essential first step in including anbd thinking about the interests of the children.
December 1 -2

More than 20 volunteers came to campus to help with the delivery of the playground equipment and other supplies. They helped to unload, sort and label equipment, cut side project materials and dig holes for the playground.
KaBOOM! in one day the playground was built, along with other exciting improvements including picnic tables, benches and games to the academy and upper garden areas. This project kicked off enhancements for all of the outdoor play spaces and there will be more to come!
