MEET OUR TEAM

Academic therapy is designed to remediate academic weaknesses. The primary focus is not to just complete homework but to build a solid academic foundation. Academic therapists are trained in proven approaches designed to target specific learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, or executive functioning deficits.

  • Reading

ACCESS academic therapists are certified in the Dubard Association Method®, a nationallyrecognized multisensory teaching-learning strategy designed for children with language deficiencies. Therapists also utilize components of other Orton-Gillingham-based approaches.

  • Written Expression

ACCESS academic therapy offers a multi-faceted approach to address oral and written expression difficulties, supporting students with tools and strategies to organize ideas and compensate for spelling or fine motor deficits that might make writing difficult.

  • Basic Math Skills

Academic therapists are able to identify math weaknesses and provide strategies and tools to compensate for visual-spatial, language-based, procedural, or memory difficulties in math skill development. Therapists match strategies to student strengths as they target basic math skills.

  • Study Skills/Organizational Skills

Some students find that studying, along with the organization of schoolwork, can be very overwhelming. ACCESS therapists introduce students to various tools and strategies to improve note-taking, extract important information from texts, and break down assignments or projects into manageable steps.
