Lori "Lo" Roberts, B.S.E.D. has been a part of the ACCESS Early Childhood team since 2011. She now serves as the Discovery Gardens Coordinator, leading the outdoor learning space and growing ACCESS's gardening curriculum. Before stepping into this role, Lo served as Lead Teacher and Team Leader for EC-2.
As Discovery Gardens Coordinator, Lori spends her days outside with students, digging in the soil, tending plants, and building a curriculum that lets children learn with their hands and their senses. Lori is delighted every time she watches a child's eyes widen in wonder at what they are seeing, touching, and even tasting as they explore the garden. It is in these moments that she senses the children gaining a little more confidence and joy in themselves and in the world growing around them. She believes ACCESS's multisensory approach, paired with teaching to the whole child, builds a love of learning that stays with a child for life.
Lo grew up in Amarillo, Texas and began her college degree at Abilene Christian University. She finished her degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education in Tennessee, graduating from Belmont University, and has also taken coursework specializing in Early Childhood Special Education. Because of her belief that play is the highest form of learning, she has been a member of the National Play Therapy Association since 2012. She has been working with and teaching children since 1986.
Lo loves spending time with her husband, three uniquely wonderful adult children, and her XL Bernedoodle Ruby. She loves hiking and exploring mountains, rivers, and beaches. Lo loves getting her hands dirty in her flower garden, sitting by her creek, laughing and hanging out with friends, reading, music, and finding outlets for her creativity. One of her deepest joys is being a small part of helping a child learn how amazing and special they are, and how fun learning can truly be.
